Tracing the ghost of suburbia in a district that awaits demolition
Tracing the ghost of suburbia in a district that awaits demolition.
about: artist book about my search for traces in a Dutch working-class area that were awaiting demolition. The walls of the abandoned houses showed me a glimpse of the lives of the people who used to live there. I decided to make a book about the personal stories I discovered on the walls and combined them with pictures of the changing urban space.
more info: I have started my search for traces – the ghost of suburbia – in a Dutch working-class area that were awaiting demolition. The walls of the abandoned houses showed me a glimpse of the lives of the people who used to live there.I decided to make a book about the personal stories I discovered on the walls and combined them with pictures of the changing urban space. The personal stories exist in handwritten texts and images recorded by inhabitants of the past. The information in these are often an expression of their innermost feelings. Sometimes they bear witness of a dead-end situation and yet, in other cases they are proof of idealism, hope and resistance. Suburban Bliss consists of a book and a short film.
